Joan Marie Petersen (nee Burkett), age 74 of Mentor, passed away on December 21, 2025. She was born February 17th, 1951 in Bellevue, Ohio to the late Kenneth and Elizabeth Burkett.
Joan was the loving sister of John (Sharon) Burkett, Jean Cramer-Bos (John Bos), Janet (Rick) Sanford, Judy (Tom) Wehrmeister, June (Dennis-deceased) Poole, Jackie Larkins (Todd Messecar), and the late Jim Burkett, and Jane (Frank) Perrin; beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Joan earned her Executive Secretary Associate Degree from Terra Technical College and proudly worked for the U.S. Government in both Washington, D.C., and Australia. She retired from Pressco Technology Inc., where she worked as an Administrative Assistant and Human Resources Generalist.
Joan had a joyful spirit and a love for life’s simple pleasures. She cherished her time spent with her siblings and many nieces and nephews and enjoyed playing games of all kinds, from Euchre and Rummikub to Words With Friends on her phone. A devoted fan of Cleveland sports, Joan loved cheering for the Guardians and the Browns. Her home was brightened over the years by her beloved pets – her cats, Sophie and Ellie, and her dog, Mitzi – who brought her endless companionship and joy. Her warmth, humor, and love for family and friends left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 147 W Forest Street in Clyde, OH. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memory Garden in Clyde, OH.
