Alexander “Sonny” Knausz passed away on November 22, 2017 at O’Neill Healthcare in Bay Village Ohio at the age of 94. Alex was born in Beauty, Kentucky on September 1, 1923 . He graduated from Collinwood High School in Cleveland. Alex was a World War II Navy veteran. Alex and Dorothy Shuker were married at St. Aloyisus Church on June 23, 1945.
As a machinist, Alex worked for Warner and Swaysey, Lewis Welding and Engineering, and Lucas Machines. He traveled to many cities and countries as a troubleshooter. He enjoyed watching and participating in sports. After his retirement, gardening was his favorite pastime.
Alex is survived by his loving children, Beverly (Edward) McNeill, Alexandra (Richard) Zeller, Michele (James) Pokelsek and Donna (Eric) Grimsic; grandchildren, Timothy (Ann) Pokelsek, Danielle (Ben Rossi) Jurick, Patrick (Katie) McNeill, Heather (William) Petranszky, Vanessa (Thomas) Rockwell, Michael (Ashley Hovey) Zeller, Melissa (Seamus Coyne) McNeill, Jillian (Matthew) Stanton, Laura (Kenneth) Horna, Bethany (Jordan) Saran, Nicholas Grimsic; great grandchildren, Kirsten and Rachel Pokelsek, Ryan, Carlie and Lauren McNeill, Adrienne, Carmen and Mariah Jurick, Charlie, A.J. and Katy Rockwell, Fiona and Cillian Coyne, Elayna and Allyson Petranszky, Lillian and Dorothy Horna, William and Simon Stanton, and Hayden Saran.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy E. Knausz (nee Shuker), and parents, Aleck and Irene Knausz Farkas (nee Toth).
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor. Visitation will be held from 10:30 am – 11:00 am Tuesday at the church.
Burial at Willoughby Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Western Reserve Wickliffe and Westlake teams, the healthcare workers at O’Neills Healthcare Bay Village, and the Veterans Administration for assisting with Alex’s care.
