Luis “Lou” Moreiras, age 74 of Mentor, OH went to his eternal resting place on December 18th, 2020, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Lou was born in Spain on March 4, 1946 and raised in Havana, Cuba until his departure for the US in 1961. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amadeo and Maria, his older brother Raul (Elena) and his first wife Ollie (Setters).
Lou is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cynthia (nee Sulak), brother, Jose (Carmina), children, Luis Jr., Mary (Dennis) Szydlowski); stepchildren, Lorraine (Samuel) Broida, Shawn (Debra) Davis, Jason (Melissa) Davis, Sharon Purdy and Lorenzo (Rose) Austin. He is also survived by seven (7) grandchildren, T. J. (Kelly) Szydlowski, Amanda Szydlowski, Gabriel Broida, Joshua Broida, Donald (Stephanie) Davis, Miles Davis, Evelyn Davis, and several great grandchildren.
Lou earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Cleveland State University (1975) and was a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) since 1976. Lou began his career at the Weatherhead Co. for 8 years and then at Parker Hannifin Corp. for 32 years, retiring in 2009. He then started his consulting company (Hydraulic Technical Services, LLC) in 2009 until late 2020.
Known for his passion, commitment, and unmatched resolve to provide better and safer products, Lou was the member and chairman of several SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) committees. Lou had 10 US and foreign patents, was the author of several articles, and was the speaker at several industry conferences.
He will be missed by family, friends and colleagues. Private services for Mr. Moreiras are being entrusted to Monreal Funeral Home with a memorial service to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the American Lung Association.
