I remember Danny when we were all much younger at the camp on the Black River. It was always wonderful when the Sweeney cousins came down to camp, swim and fish. Those are sweet memories.

My deepest sympathies to Dan’s entire family who love him so. He was a good friend to me back in the day, when we were just college aged kids trying to figure out where we belonged in this world. He was a good, good man. I’m blessed to have known him.

  9. I can’t believe it is true. I’ve known Dan for about 47 years. We were great friends. We were “best man” at each other’s wedding and Dan is the God Father for my daughter. I knew I could count on him for absolutely anything. The distance in miles recent years never mattered when we saw each other or talked. There are way too many stories to share here but rest assured that they are entertaining (even if they have become embellished over the years. Like my wife accuses us of “don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story”).
We were hyper competitive when we were growing up (but he eventually grew out of it, lol) but had a very healthy respect for each other. We absolutely loved sharing in our Irish heritage.
I will miss my dear friend.
    Love you, Dan

To the Sweeney family, I am very saddened to hear of Danny’s passing. Knowing how close your family is to each other, this must be especially hard. I remember him fondly from the days in Fairview Heights, and he was truly one of the good guys.
