After five years of living with cancer, Janet Carol Herman (née Brazalovics) died peacefully at her home in Timberlake, Ohio, on October 29, 2016.

Jan was born on March 1, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Paul and Dorothy Brazalovics. After graduating from Euclid High School, Jan married her best friend and the love of her life, Terrence C. Herman, in November 1965. She worked in various positions, including administrative roles at St. Justin Martyr School and at Seitz, Kate, Freiberg and Medve accounting firm. Her true passion, though, was for nurturing her family and friends and for creating beauty around her—in the fine arts (including painting, photography, and stained glass), in her abundant garden, and in her home.

Jan is survived by her husband, Terrence C. Herman; by their three children: Terrence P., Christine and her partner Wendy, and Jonathon and his wife Claire; by her beloved granddaughter, Gabriella; by her siblings, Janis Roth (née Brazalovics) and Jim Brazalovics (and his wife Debbie); by her cousin, Carol Ventresca; and by many other loving relatives and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jeff Monreal Funeral Home, located at 38001 Euclid Avenue in Willoughby, Ohio. Funeral mass will be held at St. Justin Martyr Church, 35781 Stevens Boulevard, Eastlake, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. Family and friends are invited to a gathering at Trader Jack’s Riverside Grille, 35901 Lakeshore Boulevard, Eastlake, immediately following the funeral.

Jan’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of both Hillcrest Hospital and Hospice of the Western Reserve. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cleveland Clinic, to Hospice of the Western Reserve, or to the Holden Arboretum.
