Jay Mahoney, age 67 of Mentor, peacefully passed away August 28th, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. He was born October 23rd, 1958 in Cleveland to loving parents Jay and Geraldine Mahoney.

 Jay retired in 2019 from Harshaw/BASF in Beachwood after 40 years of service.

Jay was a former Scout Master of Troop 306. He mentored many young men to become Eagle Scouts, including his two beloved sons (Jason & Russell) and his dear nephew (Michael). His hobbies included hanging out with his seven grandkids, golfing, fishing and being able to go on his dream trip to Alaska in June.

Jay was the loving husband and best friends for 40 years to Gina Mahoney (nee Leanza); beloved father of Jason (Leeanne) Mahoney, Stephanie (Mike) Anderson, and Russell (Caitlin) Mahoney; dearest papa/new grandpa of Kendel Mahoney, Mikael, Sadie, Micah, and Scarlett Anderson, Jayce and Jasper Mahoney; cherished son of Geri and the late Jay Mahoney; brother of Bryan (Monica) Mahoney, Rich (Tracy-deacesed) Mahoney, Steve (Angela) Mahoney, Dean (Jan) Mahoney, and the late Danny Mahoney; brother in law of Michael (Terry) Rhea, and Cathy (Paul) Zanella; uncle to many nieces and nephews including the late Justin Mahoney.

The Mahoney family will receive family and friends from 3:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, September 4th, 2026 at Jeff Monreal Funeral Home, 1000 Mentor Ave., Painesville. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 5th, 2026 at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor.
