John George Heerlein, age 88 of Chesterland, passed away October 15th, 2022 peacefully in his sleep with family at his bedside. John was born March 23rd, 1934 in Painesville to the late John and Lina Heerlein.

John was a graduate of Harvey High School in Painesville and attended Glenn College. He worked as a woodworker in O. L. Baker Woodworking shop for 20 years. John’s many craft talents benefited he and family beyond his work years.

John enjoyed baseball (member of “Babes of 1916” softball for many years), tennis, golfing, and followed professional sports of all kinds. Family and friends share fond memories of hunting trips with Richard and Michael Neroda out to Boise and Jackson Hole. He was a Freemason (Order of the Eastern Star and Lyndhurst Masonic Temple). He was a lifetime parishioner of Zion Lutheran Church in Painesville, OH and a current parishioner at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Chesterland, OH. He loved spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren’s athletic events and family gatherings.

John was the loving husband of late Mary Jane Heerlein; beloved father of Heidi (Mark) Kellermeyer, David Tod Heerlein and Becky (David) Heerlein; dearest grandfather of Alex (Meredith) D’Angelo; Carrington D’Angelo, Jacob Erste and Rachael Erste; brother of E. Arlyne Heerlein and Barbara (Richard – deceased) Neroda; uncle of Lisa Neroda; beloved dog Frodo.

Private services and burial will be held Tuesday October 18, 2022 at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Hts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jeff Monreal Funeral Home, 1000 Mentor Ave., Painesville.
