John William Wesley Hawkins

John William Wesley Hawkins, age 77 of Mentor on the Lake, left this world while surrounded by his loving family at home on January 18th, 2021. He was born February 8th, 1943 in Cleveland to the late William and Mary Hawkins.

John is the cherished husband of Lynn Hawkins; beloved father of Jack (Susheela), Elena, Geoffrey and Anne Hawkins; step father of George Jurewicz; grandfather of Marianna; loving brother and best friend of Judson Hawkins.

John received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, and practiced Law for 34 years in California and Ohio.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran, where he served as a 1st Lieutenant in Viet Nam with the 1st Calvary and the 5th Special Forces. He was awarded the Silver Star for Valor, three Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart. He will be honored with a full military burial at Arlington National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

John was loved and admired by his family for his generosity of spirit and his fearlessness.

    I am so sorry to hear of John’s passing. We worked together at Job & Family Services. We shared a lot of moments and he was a man who had a love for you and his family. He will be missed.

    Jud has served as our Legal Counsel for many years and we were fortunate to have John participate in our Village Council meetings.

    Our Council members and our fiscal officer join me in offering our condolences for the loss of such a distinguished lawyer and courageous member of our community.
