Kenneth “Jake” Nicholson, age 67, a longtime resident of Kirtland, passed away September 25, 2018. He was born May 12, 1951 in Connellsville, PA, son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (nee Klink) Nicholson.

Jake is the loving brother of David of Atwater, Terry (Jean) of Leroy, Timothy (Kathy) of Eastlake, Ronald (Kim) of Lynchburg, VA, Kimberly Tyler of Madison, Deborah (Walt) Fillar of Mentor and the late Dorothy Jean Vargo and Allen Dale; uncle of Darla (Doug) Duane, Ervin Bittinger, Dominick Barricklow, Rebecca (Steve) Klima, Doug Auxier, Megan (Andrew) Hovance, Duke Tyler, Bryan, Timmy Jr., Juli, Ricky, Keirsten, Nicole, Nash Nicholson and the late Joseph Nicholson; great uncle of many.

He graduated from Kirtland High School in 1970 and also attended Auburn Career Vocational Center, formally Lake County Joint Vocational School. He was employed at Jerry Klee’s Sunoco, Cole’s Septic, Honey Dippers, Mason’s Union 76, Jake’s Place and he retired from the City of Kirtland in maintenance in 2016.

He spent his time after retirement helping care for his mother and enjoying his retirement at his places in Tionesta, PA and Florida. Jake was well known for his zest of life and entertaining others. He was also known for cooking his unique recipes to share. Maxine, his dog, was his co-pilot for several years. He loved going with the guys on Hunting trips and working on and driving race cars in his younger years.

A chapel service will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 28, 2018 at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th Street, Cleveland, OH 44119.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jeff Monreal Funeral Services, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.

  3. So sorry to hear of Jake’s passing. We did a bunch of fooling with cars in our younger days growing up in Kirtland. We both had a passion for hot rods and Jake had some nice ones. He was a great guy. RIP BIG GUY.

I do this with extreme sorrow…There are sooo many memories I have with Jake…he was my best friend for so long….we hunted,fished,cruised,raced/built cars,camped,cooked,drank,fought… I could go on for a very long time….my mind is flooded with wonderful memories right now of days gone by…his parents,brothers,sisters…my most heartfelt Condolances to the family…wuth great regret may he R.I.P —- God Bless his Soul…a good man who will be immensely missed…God Speed my Brother

  7. I’m so sorry for your loss. Jake was my friend for 15 years while I worked at the fire department for Kirtland. He always came to visit me and we always laughed and joked. I always had to help him with his phone even after he retired. He was my friend and he will be sorely missed. God bless you and rest in peace my friend .

    We went to Kirtland schools with Jake but more than that he was a good neighbor and friend.
    I will forever remember my rides to school in his red 1966 Chevelle

  12. This news comes with great sorrow. We graduated together travel together and did a lot of things together, he will be greatly missed. He was always there when I needed somebody. He was a wonderful wonderful person. He’s in God’s hands now. May God bless his soul.
