Raymond A. Cambeiro

Raymond A. Cambeiro, age 91 of Mentor, passed away April 10, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving daughter and granddaughter. He was born December 3, 1932, in Johnstown, PA to the late Antonio and Anna Cambeiro. 

Ray was a member of the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Japan and served during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal from the National Defense and received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army. 

Ray was employed by New York Central Railroad, Penn Central, and lastly, Conrail as a Railroad Clerk for 39 years retiring in 1994. He loved and collected everything with trains.  

Ray loved all football but was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed building model airplanes and doing crosswords. He enjoyed working around the house and was the official “Mr. Fix It” of the family. He could super glue anything back together. Ray was a member of Willoughby Assembly of God for many years where he served on the church board and sang on the worship team.  

Ray enjoyed playing the guitar and performing. He wrote the song T.N.T. sung by Riki and the Rikatones, which became a worldwide hit. 

Ray was the loving husband for 68 years to the late Dorothy J Cambeiro (nee Collard); dearest father of Ramona (Tony-deceased) Gazella and the late Robert Cambeiro; devoted grandfather of Melissa (James) Chernis, Matthew Gazella, and Amanda Cambeiro; great grandfather of Meghan Chernis; brother of Anna Marie (Richard-deceased) Krstyen and the brother-in-law of Luella Luczko; and brother of the late Helen, Joseph, Thomas, Paul, Edward, Robert, Josephine, Delores, and Genevieve; cousin and uncle of many. 

The family would like to personally thank the wonderful staff of Cypress Hospice and Care Your Way for the loving care they gave to him.

Private entombment was held at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland. 

Arrangements were entrusted to Jeff Monreal Funeral Home, 1000 Mentor Ave., Painesville.
