Thomas E. Long, age 84 of Mentor, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 18, 2024. He was born in Cleveland on November 9, 1939 to the late William Long and Margaret Long (nee Posavad).

Tom was an Eagle Scout and graduate of Oliver Hazard Perry “Collinwood High” class of 1959. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from Lincoln Electric after 36 years of service.

Tom was the loving husband of 43 years to Jacqueline; beloved father of Wendy (Keith) Haldeman, and Elisa (Dan) Huenefeld; dearest grandfather of Emily (Zachary) Reed, and Sarah Haldeman; brother of the late Patricia Scimemi; uncle to many nieces and nephews.

The Long family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:30 PM Monday, January 29th, 2024 at Jeff Monreal Funeral Home, 1000 Mentor Ave., Painesville. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. A burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024 at 10:45 AM (Please arrive before 10:30 AM).

  5. Our family sends comfort. He was a kind, loving man with a gentle smile. He taught me to dive at the Eastgate Coliseum years ago .. it was more about getting rid of my fear than the dive itself. RIP Uncle Tom.
