Thomas F. Flynn October 4, 1945 – October 29, 2026
“He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Thomas F. Flynn, son of Thomas J. Flynn and Katherine L. Flynn, entered into eternal rest on October 29, 2026, surrounded by loved ones and confident in his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Tom grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where he attended St. Louis Grade School and St. Ignatius High School.
From an early age, Tom developed a passion for cars, motorcycles, racing, and all things mechanical. While attending school, he often worked at his father’s business, Tom Flynn Firestone. Those early experiences fostered a lifelong interest in mechanics and left him with some of his fondest memories and stories. Tom recently reflected that his favorite memories would always be those from his days working at the family business.
Tom continued his education at the University of Detroit, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He went on to earn a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.
Tom spent the remainder of his career working as a mechanical engineer. He retired from Chrysler, where he served as manager of the wind tunnel at the Chelsea Proving Ground in Michigan. In that role, he tried to carry forward the friendly personal touches and camaraderie he had learned from his father.
In his early years, Tom competed in motocross and other racing competitions. He also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, photography, music, and exploring family history. He was fascinated by the stories behind well-built furniture and other artifacts, appreciating the craftsmanship and history that gave each piece its character.
Above all, Tom treasured time spent with family and friends. He delighted in hosting annual family reunions at his lake home, bringing together loved ones of all ages to share stories, laughter, and lasting memories. He will be remembered for his wise advice, always accompanied by a generous helping of humorous stories and anecdotes.
Tom was the father of Katherine (Katie), who preceded him in death; Julie (Kurt) Hoadley; and Ryan, who also preceded him in death. He shared a special bond with his beloved dogs, Brutus, Remy, who preceded him in death, and Lucille.
He also leaves behind his siblings Jimmy; the late Coletta O’Brien (Jim); Marilyn (Bob) Maruna; Maria; and Jack (Maryann), along with his nephews, nieces, and many cousins, all of whom were part of the family connections he cherished so deeply.
The Flynn family will receive family and friends from 10:00 – 11:30 AM Wednesday, November 4th, 2026 at DeJohn Funeral Home, 28890 Chardon Rd., Willoughby Hills. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.
His stories, laughter, wisdom, and love for bringing people together will live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Arrangements were entrusted to Jeff Monreal Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Painesville.
