Wilbur Sweeney, age 87 of Kirtland, passed away December 24, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 13, 1930 in Willoughby.

Wilbur was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Waltraud Sweeney (nee Karpe); children, Nona (Ronald) Stanich and Michael (Tracey) Sweeney; grandchildren, Paul (Amanda) Kutscher III, Aaron Stanich, Shannon (Dylan) Barnhart, Ashley, Michael and Alexander Sweeney; great grandchildren, Madison, Gabriella, Jakob and Benjamin; many nieces and nephews; son in law, Paul Kutscher Jr.

He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Marlen Kutscher; siblings, William, Edward, George, Irene and Annabelle.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Jeff Monreal Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street, Mentor. Visitation 10 AM – 11:30 AM at the funeral home.

Burial in Kirtland South Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations to Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice, c/o Ohio Living Foundation, 1001 Kingsmill Pkwy, Columbus, OH 43229 or Lake County Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Blvd, # E, Mentor, OH 44060.

The family would also like to mention caregiver Jeannie Kirk and the Hospice Team from Ohio Living, especially Sabra Sonewald for their loving care.
